National Environmental Awareness Campaign 2009

Water Body Cleaning at EKW

SAFE participated in National Environmental Awareness Campaign, 2009 launched and sponsored by Ministry of Forest & Environment, Government of India, New Delhi. This year the theme was climate change. Our target areas were the East Kolkata Wetlands where we organized water body cleaning and Padayatra (Rally) with school students. There was tremendous enthusiasm seen among the beneficiaries, especially the children who are the future citizens of our nation. We also organized workshops in Sunderban areas like Luxbagan, Ghoramara, Sudhangshupur where climate refugees are struggling with mean sea level rise. SAFE had prepared specific workshop design and presentation to share with them. It imbibed new strength of struggle and better hope for survival. The local community had raised a forum to address the climate change problem along with migration and devaluation of their traditional cultural front in association with SAFE.
